We started as Hughes Upholstery in the 1970's  in Thomasville, N.C.  My parents Gerald & Connie Hughes, moved our family to Virginia where my father continued the business.  We lost my Father to a heart attack in 1991, and the following year my Mother to lung cancer.  That's where I come in...I am Judith May, Judy for short.  I took over the family business in 1992 with the help of, John , the upholsterer my Mother hired in May 1992.

John and I continued to run the business as Hughes Upholstery until spring of 1995 when we decided to open the fabric store to go hand in hand with our upholstery service.  That's when J&J Upholstery and Drapery Fabric, Inc. was born. We have continued to grow to one of the largest upholstery businesses in the area.  Since that time, we have added customed designed window treatments, bedding, special order furniture from two highly respected U.S. furniture manufactures, Dexter Furniture and Wesley Hall Furniture.  We offer design services  such as space planning for your home through a highly respected Designer in our area Denise Denecke.
